What is WEA-PAC?

WEA-PAC is Washington Education Association's Political Action Committee. WEA-PAC supports candidates, regardless of party, who champion the needs of public education.  Committees composed of WEA-PAC members interview political candidates to determine their positions only on issues that affect public education, WEA members, and our students. Then WEA-PAC supports quality candidates who are willing to stand up for public education. WEA-PAC membership is completely voluntary and collected separately from dues. Contributing to WEA-PAC is how our members have a collective voice in electing candidates--including school boards, judgeships, the State Legislature, the Governor, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction—who will be advocates for public education, regardless of their party affiliation.

Why join WEA-PAC?

Every decision that affects public education is a political decision—compensation, health care benefits, retirement, accountability, funding for class size reduction, etc. WEA-PAC is how WEA members have a strong collective voice in influencing these decisions.

  • It's an investment in yourself and in public education! WEA-PAC helps us elect candidates who support WEA positions on compensation, retirement, changes to the new teacher certification rules, support for the National Board stipend and process, accountability, the WASL as a high stakes graduation requirement, collective bargaining, etc.
  • It's much easier to elect candidates who agree with us than to change the minds of politicians who don’t support our agenda for public education.
  • Contributing to WEA-PAC is being pro-active! You can join WEA-PAC for only $2.25 a month through payroll deduction!

Why do I need to be interested in politics?

  • Your Salary - The Washington Legislature determines your annual salary and salary increases.
  • Your Class Size - The Legislature controls school funding - which affects your class size.
  • Your Benefits - The benefits you receive and your out-of-pocket costs for those benefits are determined by the Legislature.
  • Your Retirement - The Legislature recently decided to reduce your retirement benefits.
